Tornado Alarm
I have to tell you about our night last night. It had been a hot day, and incredibly humid - it felt like swimming just to walk outside. Later that night, the wind started blowing. We stayed up quite late playing games, and finally got into bed a little after midnight. The storm was really heating up by then. Then, about two hours later, I woke up to horrible thunder and lightning, and the wind was very loud. I was getting a little nervous, and then the tornado siren went off right by our house. I pinched Dan (poor guy, it was all I could think of in my panic), and we got up and headed downstairs. Dan had the sense to suggest putting clothes on, so we threw clothes on and got in the basement quick. We pulled Emma out of bed, and she was so confused. After she woke up and listened to the siren, she understood what we were doing, because we always tell her during the drills that we go to the basement if we hear the siren. So, we all cuddled on the couch downstairs and watched the storm rip through Omaha on the TV. The front line of the storm put a tornado down about ten miles to our west (took down four houses and a Target as far as we have heard), and then passed right over our house. Luckily all we had were some very strong winds, but no twisters. This is the first time that the siren right by our house has gone off, and it was deffinently the closest we've ever come to a tornado by our house. Thank goodness for modern technology that can warn us and keep us safe, though we were very tired after such an exciting interuption to our night.
