We've always tried to be as frank and open with Emma as possible, and as we just adopted a baby a few months ago, lots of questions about where babies come from have come up. Though we have never discussed how the baby actually begins to grow, she knows what being adopted means, and she know that she came from my tummy, and that Seth came from Sheena's tummy, but that they are both my kids the same. But still, she has to check every once in a while that she knows what's going on. So, here's the latest conversation from a few days ago:
After a few minutes of talking about who came from where (again-living with a four year old is like living with, and becoming, a broken record). The conversation suddenly took an unexpected change.
Emma: "Mom? When will I have a baby?"
Mom: "Not for a long time."
Emma: "Does it hurt when we get the baby out?"
Mom: "Oooh yes."
Emma: (As one thought leads to another) "Does it hurt when we get the baby in?"
Mom: "Uh, not really." (Cringing for the next question).
Emma: (Slight pause as she thinks this over) "Mom? I changed my mind. I don't want to have a baby anymore."
Mom: "Good." (Huge sigh of relief)

oops...that wasn't meant to be a "?". It was meant to be a "!". =)
Cute! Hey, I really enjoyed the previous post about your folks and all their endevors. This may sound quirky but I look up to them. I dream of being better at "living off the land".
How cute! And lucky for you that you were able to evade "the talk" for a while longer! Emma seems like a sweet and quick little girl!
lol!!!!!!
