Coyote Gulch

Memorial Day Weekend
Why not a hike? We thought we'd go for it. So we hopped in the truck with mom, dad, Mitch and Sonnie. We drove down south to Escalante and hiked through a canyon called Coyote Gulch. It was an amazing hike, and the canyon was awesome. As always, pictures do not do it justice, but here we are trying.
Showing off our packs before the hike. I got to use my new pack and gear, and although it was very nice, I was very glad to get it off when it was over. Even a mere 21 pounds feels like a ton when you've hiked 18 miles in two days.
At the very beginning we climbed into the canyon through a crack in the rock called Crack in the Rock. It was too tight to wear our packs so we handed them down to eachother, or carried them over our heads.
Mitch 'n' Sonnie climbing through the crack.
Dan in "the Crack."
After the crack, we had to climb down a huge sand dune. This huge monolith was sticking right up in the middle.
This is where Dan slept the first night.
Not really. It was just a cool formation in the wall. Here are Mran and Dan (how darling).
And the girlies.
My funtastic mumzie and dadio.
Lots of rocks to climb.
And interesting places to explore. This is a little waterfall, going right through the rocks, and Mitch going right through that.
Mom by another little waterfall. We camped near here. I didn't take a picture of our camp, but it was pretty cool. We camped in a little hidden alcove.
Hiking, hiking and more hiking. Everyone decided they wanted to hike out a day early to be home at a decent hour on monday. It was a good idea, but it just about killed me.
This is Coyote Bridge. The water runs right under it, and has carved this beautiful natural bridge out.
Another little waterfall.
How romantic.
Dan jumped in a would-be Mitch and Sonnie pic.
So Mitch jumped in a Mran and Dan shot. Little brothers!!!
We liked this huge fallen tree.

Dorky. But priceless. Right?
And finally, Hurricane Arch. It was so huge, and way cool.

And this is how we felt at the end. Ready to pass out on the spot.

All in all, it was a great hike. I had so much fun, even though it was tiring and my legs ached for a day afterward. And I really appreciated my parents-in-law for taking such good care of my kids. It's comforting to know that I can do something like this every once in a while and my babies will be in good hands.

Part of this reminded me of "The Hunger Games." Have you read that one?
