It has begun. Little Emma is in first grade. We had a very happy, exciting first day of school.
She got to start at a brand new school this year since we're (hopefully) moving to our new house this month. She was a little nervous to get to know a new classroom and a new routine, but was brave and bright-eyed, as usual.
The day before school started, we had a major meltdown, and a huge fit. At that point, I didn't think school could start soon enough. But, the next day, as I watched her walk off to spend the day with teacher and peers, I have to admit that I got a little weepy again. It was nothing like the water works last year, but still so hard to say goodbye to my baby. She's growing up -- into a beautiful, smart little girl -- but still.
When she got home, she summed up her day like this. "It was okay, but not as fun as kindergarten. All we did all day was color and read stories."
First of all, isn't that what kindergarten was? And second, what did she want to do? Solve algebra problems? Either way, I hope she keeps this attitude when the real work starts.
She's lucky to have a good buddy at school this year, which is something she didn't have last year. Rylie is a third grader, and was so excited to show Emma how everything is done.
And poor little brother has been thrown for a loop. I had to wake him up early in the morning, and cut his nap short in the afternoon. This will only last for two weeks until we get into our house. Until then, I have to drive her to and from school - what a pain, and a huge waste of time! Luckily, we get to ride to bus again when we move.

Good luck with the house. I'm anxious to see the pics and hear about your experience!
